NFT at Instagram

Recently, the “Make Instagram, Instagram Again” petition appeared which contained complaints from users about the Instagram algorithm which was considered to be similar to TikTok. Reporting from the Instagram account @narasinewsroom, Adam Mosseri claimed to have heard user complaints. However, the social media platform that has been acquired by Meta will continue to prioritize reels, a short video product. This is due to the changing tastes of users who consume more video content. Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg also admitted that he would continue to make Instagram and Facebook like TikTok because Meta made a profit of $ 1 billion USD from advertising reels and the amount of user time consumption was 30%.

Instagram often adapts to changing trends in social media users. Recently, Instagram even released a new feature, namely NFT (non-fungible token). After successfully conducting trials in the United States in May 2022, now Instagram has inaugurated the NFT feature in 100 countries including Indonesia.

At the start of the launch, Instagram collaborated with Sultan Gustaf Al Ghozali or better known as Ghozali Everyday, a young man who has successfully sold NFT in the form of selfies with a timeline on OpenSea. He became the first person to post NFT on his personal Instagram account with the official Instagram logo. He himself thinks that many internet users are not familiar with NFT, even though the trend has been busy in Indonesia since 2020.

Ghozali thinks that the presence of the NFT feature on Instagram can open access for creators like him in introducing and promoting digital work. He also hopes that the presence of this feature can accelerate the use of NFT in Indonesia, especially with the widespread presence of Metaverse.

Pieter Lydian, a Country Director for Meta Indonesia said Instagram will continue to explore Web3 technology because it has great potential to expand access, empower, reduce costs, and accelerate innovation for people around the world. It will also encourage creators and the global community to reach a wider audience and monetize digital collections.

“In the future, users can display and share their digital collections as AR (Augmented Reality) stickers on Instagram Stories,” said Pieter.

The presence of the NFT feature allows creators to publish their NFT works directly from the blockchain to Instagram. Currently, Instagram supports the NFT features of the Ethereum, Polygon, and Flow blockchains. Not to be outdone, Solana will also follow Ethereum in launching its NFT on Instagram. Not only is Instagram a place to publish NFT works, but Instagram also allows users to purchase and display their favorite NFT creators’ collections of images, art, music, or videos on Instagram.

Tutorial Using NFT on Instagram

The first thing you have to do to access the NFT feature on your Instagram is to connect your wallet. Once connected, creators and collectors can share NFT from their wallets to Instagram. Compatible wallets include Coinbase, Metamask, Phantom, Dapper, Trust Wallet, and Rainbow.

Check out how to connect the wallet to the following Instagram account:

  1. Open Instagram account
  2. Make sure your Instagram profile has been changed to a collector’s account and not a personal account
  3. Go to the profile menu on Instagram in the lower right corner
  4. Click the three-line button in the upper right corner
  5. Select the settings menu or settings
  6. Then select Digital Collectibles or Digital Collection in the menu on the left.
  7. Select the wallet you want to connect
  8. Click the continue button
  9. Enter your password when a notification appears asking for your wallet password.
  10. Click Sign
  11. Click OK to confirm if your wallet is connected to your account when a second notification appears after entering your wallet password

Keep in mind that each wallet can only be connected to one Instagram account.

Time to Share Collections on Instagram!
Once you’ve successfully uploaded your NFT collection, it’s time to share the post! Later, your digital NFT collection will appear with a shiny effect that displays information about the NFT. Your NFT posts will also appear on the profiles of other creators and collectors!

Come on, check out the following ways to start sharing your digital collection!

  1. Open Instagram account
  2. On the Home menu, click the Post menu with the “plus” logo in the upper right corner of the screen
  3. Select the “Add from library” menu
  4. Click on your connected digital wallet
  5. Select the NFT collection you want to share on the Digital Collectibles screen
  6. Click Share to Feed to share it to your Instagram feed. You can add descriptions to make it more interesting!

Auto-tag feature
Uniquely, when you display your favorite NFT creator’s work, Instagram will automatically tag or mark the NFT post to the NFT creator’s Instagram account. However, you also have to make sure your privacy settings have allowed Instagram to auto-tag features.

Wow, Instagram doesn’t seem tired of innovating, huh? What do you think about the NFT feature? Have you tried connecting the NFT feature on your Instagram account? If you have an NFT collection in your wallet and there is an NFT feature on your Instagram account, you can try it right away, you know.
